Higher Education
Lifelong learning is a key component for workforce retention, and the Quad Cities region has a range of opportunities.There are a total of 40 colleges and universities within a 90-mile (144.840 km) radius of the Quad Cities, with 19 located in Illinois and 21 located in Iowa. The 40 colleges and universities include 12 community colleges, two public four-year universities, two public university satellite campuses, and 24 private colleges, universities, and institutions of higher learning.
Quad Cities region is also home to the Quad Cities Graduate Study Center, promoting access to higher education as a "one stop shop" for information on graduate programs in the Quad Cities. In 2009, the GradCenter served 2,300 students and 55 different employers with innovative programs like on-site employer information sessions, management-level informational sessions and curriculum development initiatives.
Black Hawk College - A two-campus community college fully accredited by the North Central Association, Black Hawk offers two-year associate's degrees as well as vocational and technical training. Palmer College of Chiropractic - Founded in 1897, Palmer is the oldest and most respected name in chiropractic education. St. Ambrose University - A private four-year liberal-arts college offering a wide range of programs leading to both bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as a new doctoral program in business administration. Augustana College - An independent four-year college of liberal arts and sciences affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Augustana will celebrate 125 years in the Quad-Cities in the year 2000.
